Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.
The large audience will listen to a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.
A Theme of Kindness and Compassion
The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Performance and Potential
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the evening's event.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.
A Sisterly Duo
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for community pantries.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.
Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
