Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.

Fans can expect discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
