Blues Manager Maresca Dismisses Man City Links as '100%' Rumour
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has labelled recent talk connecting him with a return to Manchester City as "100% speculation".
The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant in Manchester, addressed the persistent rumours about his future.
Maresca, appointed Chelsea boss in June 2024, is under contract that runs until 2029, with a possible extension option.
"It doesn't bother me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is little room for these kind of things."
He further elaborated, Primarily, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my attention, I said many times, is solely on this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was linked with a role in Italy with Juventus. So I don't pay attention because I know that is without foundation."
Chelsea, presently placed fourth in the top flight, are scheduled to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a 12:30 GMT kick-off.
Strain After Previous Remarks
Maresca's latest statement follow in the wake of he referred to a previous two-day spell as his "worst" since joining Chelsea.
Those original remarks had fueled considerable talk of a possible disagreement between the manager and the club's key decision-makers.
When pressed if he had since spoken with the Chelsea's leadership, Maresca responded, "We are in the same facility, so we speak about various topics. But about the Everton press conference, no."
The Italian however affirmed he would definitely stay at the club next season and called on supporters to "continue to support the team".
In more positive news, Maresca indicated that injured forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back ahead of schedule, possibly in contention for a match against Aston Villa on 27 December.
Analysis: Unresolved Tension
The apparent strain between Maresca and the Chelsea board remains as an open wound that still create unease.
While there has been no deepening of the matter in the open, there has equally been no apology forthcoming, creating the matter unaddressed.
The mood during these media briefings has become notably awkward, leading to fears it could impact what has otherwise been a promising start to the season.
Chelsea's sporting situation is strong: they are fourth in the Premier League, have reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals, and can achieve a favourable European draw with good performances in their remaining games.
